How Do You Clean A Very Soiled And Greasy Oven
The But Way I Was Able to Clean My Greasy Oven Door
Y'all may recollect that time when I wrote about cleaning my (very muddied) oven. (If non, y'all should go back and read it. I'll wait!) Everything came out looking pretty practiced — except my oven door. Despite vigorous scrubbing with blistering soda and Bon Ami, the spatters wouldn't budge (it was a rental oven, and it likely had never been cleaned before). Information technology was frustrating and a pain that we couldn't see through the drinking glass into the oven.
It took me six months to revisit the trouble (I know!), merely I finally got the drinking glass on my oven door looking clean and clear. So how did I practise information technology?
When I originally asked for advice on how to bargain with the embedded grease on my oven door, one Kitchn reader suggested I try out the oven and grill cleaner from Norwex, a cleaning company that sells its products through a network of consultants. She was and then convinced it would work on my oven door when nil else would that she even sent me a sample, along with a mesh pot scrubber. (Thanks, reader!)
Norwex'southward oven cleaner is advertised as an all-natural, non-toxic cleaner that cleans without the caustic fumes and chemicals nowadays in most commercial oven cleaners. (Run into here for the ingredients listing.) The "enzymes" present in the conception evidently go to work in the presence of heat; the directions specify to beginning heat your oven to 100 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, and then turn off the oven, spray the cleaner, and let it sit for v to 10 minutes. Later on that yous might demand a lilliputian scrubbing, but you should be able to merely wipe and — voila! — all done!
I can't say that's exactly how it worked for us, but it did end upwardly working. Here'due south what nosotros did.
How I Cleaned the Oven with the Norwex Oven & Grill Cleaner
I heated the oven to 175 degrees Fahrenheit (I thought hotter would exist improve — I was wrong) for 10 minutes, turned it off, opened the oven, sprayed the cleaner on the door, closed the door, and let it sit for ten minutes. (I'thou happy to written report there was very piddling odor; in that location was a balmy odor from the rut and the cleaner, but zilch overwhelming or dizzying.)
When I opened the door once more, most of the cleaner had dripped off or stale, and when my married man started scrubbing (I was six months pregnant, so he did the manual labor role), goose egg happened. Then, failure, right?
Not then. While you want the oven to exist warm, I remember information technology was too warm in this case, and stale all the solution. (Advice: Stick to the recommend temps!) Then, we sprayed downwards the door again and started scrubbing with a fresh coating of the cleaner and the mesh pot scrubber, so the grease started coming off.
And scrub nosotros did. This was no wipe-down-and-all-clean project, equally Norwex advertises. My husband had to scrub the door vigorously for at least fifteen minutes. Was this due more to the detail caked-on nastiness of our rental oven door, and not necessarily false advertising? Quite possibly. Merely it worked eventually, something that cannot be said for the vigorous scrubbing with blistering soda and Bon Ami that I tried earlier.
The mesh pot scrubber itself was very helpful; however, its small size and tiny knob made it pretty uncomfortable to employ. Your hand wraps around the little knob in the eye, and this makes it cramp upwards when you're scrubbing for long periods of time. I imagine the small size is perfect for pots and pans, just non platonic for bigger projects like this. (I mentioned this to the reader, and she told me Norwex has a product chosen Spirinetts, which is similar to the pot scrubber just without a handle, which might get in more than comfortable to use in this instance.)
After twenty minutes, when nosotros wiped down the oven door with a damp cloth, we saw this.
A totally articulate and make clean window! (Accept a look at the earlier photograph again — quite an improvement!)
And so, I have to say that I'm a believer in this product. For a not-toxic cleaner, I was really impressed that it worked too every bit it did. (My married man'south sore muscles may say otherwise, but even he admits it was worth all the scrubbing.)
You can buy Norwex products through their worldwide consultant network. Fine one near you hither.
Have you lot ever tried Norwex? Practice y'all accept any other favorite cleaners that have worked for your greasy oven door?
